Mnangagwa concludes China visit

President Emmerson Mnangagwa this morning departed Beijing after a successful state visit that saw Zimbabwe and China elevate their relations from a Five-Star Iron-Clad Friendship to the All-Weather Zimbabwe-China Community with a Shared Future.

The landmark upgrade is expected to strengthen bilateral trade, deepen strategic economic ties, and serve as a model of solidarity between China, Africa, and the broader Global South.

Mnangagwa was in China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping and joined other world leaders at Tiananmen Square on Wednesday for commemorations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

During his four-day visit, the President held a series of high-level meetings with executives from Chinese companies exploring investment opportunities in Zimbabwe. The engagements culminated in a crucial meeting with President Xi yesterday, which focused on strengthening Harare-Beijing relations and advancing economic diplomacy in line with Zimbabwe's foreign policy of engagement and re-engagement.

Mnangagwa was seen off at the Beijing Capital International Airport by senior Chinese government officials, Zimbabwe's Ambassador to China Abigail Shonhiwa, and embassy staff.

He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira, Finance and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, Attorney General Virginia Mabiza, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, and Deputy Chief Secretary George Charamba, among other senior government officials.
