Pretoria - South Africa's economic growth quickened to 3.0% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2013, compared with 0.9% in the first quarter, Statistics South Africa said on Tuesday.

On an unadjusted year-on-year basis, the economy grew 2.0% in the second quarter from 1.9% in the previous three months.

Economists polled by Reuters last week expected quarter-on-quarter growth to accelerate to 3.3% and 1.9%respectively on a year-on-year basis.
