Air Zim to resume Vic Falls - Joburg daily flights

National air carrier Air Zimbabwe is set to resume daily flights between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg to cater for an increase in demand on the route.

In an interview yesterday, Air Zimbabwe public relations manager Ms Shingai Taruvinga said direct flights between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg were due to commence tomorrow as part of efforts by the airline to take advantage of increased inbound and outbound traffic.

"We are re-launching the Vic Falls-Joburg route this Friday as we respond to an increase in traffic between the two places," she said.

Ms Taruvinga said the re-launch was also aimed at making the Victoria Falls accessible ahead of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly.

Zimbabwe and Zambia are co-hosting the 20th session of the general assembly from 24 to 29 August.

Ms Taruvinga said in this light, it made business sense to re-launch the flights to cater for delegates coming in for the tourism indaba.

"UNWTO is coming and therefore the need to connect Vic Falls and Johannesburg as it is the region's hub in terms of arrivals and departures. We have also been experiencing an increase in traffic into and out of the country and Air Zimbabwe should take its leading role as a facilitator of growth," she said.

Ms Taruvinga said after launching the Cruising Altitude promotion, the airline had been overwhelmed by high demand of travellers using the airline.

"A lot of people have been using our airline recently and we want the trend to continue. We have even added extra slots between Harare, Bulawayo and Johannesburg. We have days when there are double flights between Harare and Bulawayo and because of this demand, we are now linking Victoria Falls and Johannesburg," she said.

She said there were a lot of Zimbabweans in South Africa who wanted to visit Victoria Falls on holiday.

"Zimbabweans in the Diaspora and South Africa can also fly direct to this destination and we are offering affordable rates," she said.
