THE tank 3-rebuild programme at Freda Rebecca is now complete paving the way for an increase in production.

The tank sustained damages in a leach tank incident that occurred in February.

According to Mwana Africa, which owns the mine, the tank has been successfully re-commissioned into the leach circuit and the leach circuit is now restored to its optimal operating configuration prior to the February incident.

Mwana Africa's chief executive Kalaa Mpinga said the installation of leach tank 3 brings the leach tank incident to a close with the leach circuit now being restored to its original configuration.

"I would like to express my appreciation for the work done by local management in collaboration with local authorities in dealing with the situation," he said.

Freda recorded a 37 percent increase in gold output in the full year to March 2013.

During the year it sold 65 350 ounces of gold at an average price of $1 650 per ounce as well as by-products, generating revenue of $108,1 million.

The out-turn compares extremely well with last year's performance over the same period when output came in at 47 770oz, for $1 664/oz, with revenue of $79,8 million.
