BOTSWANA Stock Exchange listed retail group, Choppies Enterprises plans to open more outlets in the country this year to add to the current 13 already in operation.

According to the group's unaudited financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2013, revenues rose 25 percent to Botswana Pula 2 million.

Gross profit was up 31 percent to Pula 532,000.

Group chairman Festus Mogae said the company commenced operations in Zimbabwe with 11 stores last October before adding two more in December and this year January.

Its Zimbabwe operations current retail space covers 15,124 square metres with close to 900 employees.

"As part of our further expansion plans, we expect to open many more stores in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the current fiscal year," said Mogae in a statement accompanying the results.

In Botswana during the period under review Choppies opened 11 new stores including 6 Supa Save Stores bringing the number of stores to 67 and an additional retail space of 14,788 square meters.

In South Africa five new stores were opened bringing the number of shops in that country to 24.

Mogae said a dividend would only be declared and distributed after the finalisation of the financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2014.
