Zim begs for 5% of Chinese tourists
Published: 12 May 2014

Zimbabwe is courting China to upgrade the Preferred Destination Agreement (PDA) to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) before year end to ensure that the Asian country fulfill its pledge to make Zimbabwe its destination of choice.

The MoU will seek to draw at least 5% of the 98 mln outbound Chinese tourists to Zimbabwe.

Under the PDA Zimbabwe receives only 400 000 direct tourist visits from China with another 600 000 visiting Zimbabwe in transit to other countries on the continent.

Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi said Zim and China should quickly work on visa efficiencies and upgrade China from category C to B to ensure more visits.
