Emirates Airlines has increased its economy class checked baggage allowance by a third, bringing it into line with the business class offering.

The generous 40kg economy class baggage allowance, increased from the previous level of 30kg, is available to selected destinations across the Emirates network for bookings this July and September 30, 2014.

The destinations included in the special arrangement are Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Osaka, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderbad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Kochi, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Istanbul, Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle, Bangkok, Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Sialkot and Peshawar.

The allowance is free of charge, providing a particularly attractive perk for travellers visiting family and friends, or those exploring shopping bargains in Dubai and beyond.

The allowance also boosts opportunities for traders in goods from household items and stationery to car accessories and mobile phones, and confirms Dubai as the destination of choice for small-scale entrepreneurs looking to buy merchandise.

The allowance means traders can bring back more goods from their trips to Dubai and other shopping centres such as Guangzhou and Bangkok, helping to make their businesses more efficient and prices more competitive for their customers.

"This increased baggage allowance makes Emirates the perfect choice for passengers from Harare," said Emirates country manager for Zimbabwe Paulos Legesse.

"The special allowance also enables customers to take full advantage of the world class shopping facilities offered by Dubai, which is renowned as the ultimate shopping destination."

Legesse said, in addition to the economy class promotion, customers travelling with Emirates benefit from a baggage allowance of 40kg in cusiness class and 50kg in first class.

Passengers on Emirates flights can also stay in touch with SMS, email and phone connections in every seat.

Emirates flies daily from Harare to Dubai via Lusaka.
