$400m for Darwendale platinum project

Great Dyke Investments (GDI) says it will invest $400 million to build a precious metals mine and smelter at its Darwendale Project near Harare.

The investment is the first stage of a total investment estimated at $3 billion in what the company says will be the world's biggest Platinum Group Metals (PGM) asset.

GDI is a 50:50 joint venture between Russia's JSC Afromet and Zimbabwe's Pen East Ltd and expects to produce up to 855 000 ounces of platinum group metals and gold annually, nearly double the country's production in 2017.
