ZIMBABWE's tobacco output is poised for a record outturn, with produce that has so far gone through the sales floors reaching 73 percent of target, an advisory firm has said.

Equity Axis, one of the country's leading research firms, said the achievement, which was registered on day 44 of this year's tobacco marketing season, represented 15,47 percent growth in volumes on prior year.

About 127 million kgs had been sold during the same period last year.

"At day 44, a total of 146,69 million kgs worth of tobacco has been sold. This is the equivalent of 73 percent of the targeted 200 million kgs and, at this rate, tobacco is poised for a record outturn," Equity Axis said in an analysis on the selling season released last week.
