Zimbabwe inflation drops again

Zimbabwe inflation drops again
Published: 16 February 2015
Zimbabwe's inflation has dropped to -1,28 percent with calls for the government to focus on price stability policies.

Data released by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) today shows that prices decreased by an average of 1,28 percentage points between January 2014 and January this year.

An economist, Mr Elisha Tshuma said the reduction in inflation is a necessary process towards correcting high prices in the economy.

"This is critical as we seek to focus on policies aimed at increasing productivity in the economy," he said.

Monetary authorities last week said Zimbabwe is experiencing disinflation dismissing the notion that it is being affected by deflation.

Disinflation means a slowdown in the rate of price increases for goods and services while deflation is the drop in prices caused by a reduction in money supply.
