THE ZimTrade board has announced the appointment of Mr Allan Tawanda Majuru as the new substantive chief executive officer for the country's trade promotion agency with effect from 1 September 2018.

The board made the decision to elevate Mr Majuru following a meeting in Harare on Friday. He has been ZimTrade's acting chief executive officer since March 2018, and succeeds Mrs Sithembile Pilime who left the organisation earlier.

Mr Majuru joined ZimTrade in April 2014 as the small to medium enterprises (SMEs) export development manager.

"His expertise in developing SMEs and maintaining client satisfaction afforded him a promotion to director of client service delivery in 2015," said the board.

Mr Majuru holds an MSc in Agricultural Applied Economics and a BSc Honours in Agricultural Economics and Extention from the University of Pretoria and University of Zimbabwe respectively.

His career started with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2004 as a senior economist in the economics and markets division. Thereafter, Mr Majuru joined the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) as a scientific officer where he worked on improving the performance of agricultural input and output markets in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Nigeria.
