The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has disbursed ZiG6,1 billion for roadworks nationwide, funding critical infrastructure projects including the dualisation of the Harare-Mazowe Road.
Zinara board chairperson George Manyaya said the disbursement is part of the government's Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2), which has rehabilitated over 50,000 kilometres of road and attended to 2,000 structures to date. "Funds are still available for ongoing works as we continue to fulfil our mandate," Manyaya said.
The Harare-Mazowe Road dualisation, a major beneficiary of the funding, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Exodus & Company engineer Alex Mashangu said construction is currently underway on the section from the New Parliament access road to Blueridge, with completion slated for December. Parallel works extending to Mazowe are expected to conclude by September next year. "We have ensured the construction of a durable road which will last about 15 years without potholes if maintained well," Mashangu added.
Transport and Infrastructural Development deputy minister Joshua Sacco emphasized that the upgraded roads aim to boost local contractor confidence and drive economic growth by facilitating trade with neighbouring countries such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The latest disbursement reinforces the government's commitment to addressing Zimbabwe's infrastructural challenges through sustained and strategic funding.
