The Ministry of Skills Audit and Development, in partnership with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and the Zimbabwe Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), is set to conduct a nationwide Agricultural Skills Audit aimed at strengthening the country's agricultural sector.

The exercise, scheduled to run from early October through the end of November, will assess existing skills, identify gaps, and align training and development programs with national development strategies.

Speaking at a preparatory workshop for the initiative, Justin Mahlahla, Deputy Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development, emphasized that the audit will provide critical data to guide policy formulation, resource allocation, and strategic interventions within the sector.

"The sensitization workshops will provide detailed information about the skills audit process. They will also clarify the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders and demonstrate how to participate in the data collection process," Mahlahla said. "Participants will also have the opportunity to address questions and concerns during these workshops."

To ensure the effectiveness of the national rollout, a pilot audit will first be conducted in Mashonaland Central province at the end of September. The pilot will test methodologies, refine data collection tools, and train audit teams under real-world conditions before scaling up the exercise nationwide.

"This phased approach underscores our commitment to conducting a thorough, accurate, and impactful audit," Mahlahla said, highlighting the initiative's role in enhancing data integrity, informing policy, and driving sustainable growth in Zimbabwe's vital agricultural industry.
