It's a season of cheer for Government workers after authorities confirmed that civil servants will this year receive two bonuses - the traditional annual bonus and a special Presidential bonus - while the popular car rebate scheme is being fully restored.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo announced that the bonuses will be paid out in two equal instalments of US$75 each in November and December, on top of the regular annual bonus.
"The regular bonus will be paid as usual and naturally guided by Treasury cash flows. The Presidential bonus will also be paid in two equal instalments of US$75 in November and December," said Minister Moyo.
He said the Government remains committed to improving the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, describing the initiative as part of President Mnangagwa's Second Republic drive to build a motivated and productive public service.
In another boost for workers, Minister Moyo revealed the full restoration of the civil servants' motor vehicle rebate scheme, which allows long-serving employees to import vehicles duty-free. The scheme had been temporarily adjusted to address abuse and corruption but will now revert to its 2022 benefit levels.
"The civil servants' vehicle rebate is being fully restored to 2022 benefit levels, rewarding long service and commitment as reflected in Statutory Instrument 124 of 2022 with effect from 1 December 2025," he said.
Under the scheme, only civil servants with 10 or more years of service qualify for the duty-free import facility, with a strict condition that the vehicles cannot be sold or hired out within five years without prior written consent from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra).
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) last year recovered over 350 vehicles that had been illegally imported under the scheme.
With the double bonuses and the rebate's return, Government workers are expected to enjoy a highly rewarding festive season - one that promises financial relief, renewed motivation, and perhaps a new set of wheels to match the holiday spirit.
