UNWTO maiden ship cruise to be launched

United Nations World Tourism Organisation brand ambassadors together with captains of the tourism and hospitality industry are set to be treated to a maiden cruise on the Zambezi Trader that will be launched on Lake Kariba next week.

The Zambezi Trader, which has a capacity of 150 people, will embark on its maiden cruise on Lake Kariba on August 29 and will travel via Bumi Hills, Luzi Lukulu and end it trip in Binga, where its passengers will disembark continue on to Victoria Falls from August 29 to 31.

UNWTO brand ambassador for Victoria Falls and Zambezi, Mr Hugo Ribatika said the cruise was an opportunity for many people to experience Kariba differently and network. He said many people were used to going fishing in Kariba but the area had more things to offer.

"Kariba and Binga have been neglected in terms of tourism maybe because of the climate. All people think about Kariba is fishing. Kariba is the biggest manmade lake which makes it unique," he said.

Zambezi Trader operations manager, Mr Qeinten de Lange said a lot of people were not visiting Kariba because they do not know what is on offer.

He said the crew will be treated to various activities at the beach and there will also be an opportunity for fishing.
