AAROH Mart, the latest retail branch operated by Bulawayo business mogul Raj Modi, yesterday officially opened its doors to the public.

The latest entrant in the supermarket retail business situated at Bulawayo Centre follows the recent takeover of Shoprite, one of South Africa's biggest retail chains which appears to have exited Zimbabwe.

Hundreds of bargain hunters thronged the new retail shop when it flung its doors open just after 8am.

Shoppers expressed excitement over the opening of the branch, saying most goods were cheaper than in other shops in town.

Others hoped the new kid on the block would provide additional employment to thousands of unemployed residents.

The opening of a new shop is part of Modi's expansion strategy to grow the business under his Sai Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, which now has 10 retail outlets in the city.

The company employs over 750 workers with the staff expected to increase next year as the entity grows.

Five of the retail outlets, including Bellevue Spar, Nkulumane, Entumbane, City Spar and Down Spar operate under the international franchise Spar.

Modi has been in business for the past 25 years and has a track record of managing business challenges in different economic cycles that the nation has been experiencing in the past two decades.

He envisages the group to be the leading retail supermarket in the metropolitan province of Bulawayo by capturing 60% of the market within the leading retail supermarkets operating under the Spar franchise.
