United Refineries target foreign markets

Zimbabwe's second largest cooking oil refinery, United Refineries, says it is now looking to revive exports, which would increase its capacity utilisation.

The company has a refining capacity of 8 000 metric tonnes of oil seeds per month, however, Busisa Moyo the company's Chief executive officer is reported to have said that capacity utilisation was around 50% in 2013 after the company resumed production of several brands that had stopped due to lack of working capital.

Moyo is reported to have said the company is working on reopening new markets for its cooking oil and soup in countries like Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique.

Some of the product lines include the cooking oil lines as well as toiletries such as Bath&Basin, Vogue, Image and Fresh Health Joy.

The company has capacity to produce 2 000 tonnes of cooking oil against a national demand of 8 000 tonnes per month.
