Turkish Airlines ready to introduce Harare flights

Turkish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Kadir Hidayet Eris says Turkish Airlines is ready to introduce directs flights to Harare and has urged the Zimbabwean government to expedite the ratification of the air agreement in order to unlock tourism and trade opportunities.

Turkey and Zimbabwe trade which stood at US$16 million in 2016 can be boosted with improved connectivity and the introduction of Istanbul-Harare flights by the Turkish Airlines, according to the foreign economic relations board of Turkey (DEIK).

Mr Eris said the Turkish Airlines has indicated its readiness to introduce Harare flights once Zimbabwe ratifies the bilateral air services agreement.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairperson, Cde Dexter Nduna expressed the committee's keenness in promoting the open skies policy.

Turkey's tourism industry is currently on a rebound with tourist arrivals surging by 18 percent during the first quarter of 2017, ending a losing streak that began in August 2015.

During the period of May 2017 Turkey Airlines announced a 4.5 percent increase in passengers to 5.9 million from 5.7 million passengers.
