South African Airlink has upgraded its aircraft for the Victoria Falls-Cape Town route increasing its capacity in yet another sign of confidence by regional and international airlines in the country's premier tourists' destination.

SA Airlink has since the beginning of July introduced a new aircraft to service Cape Town-Victoria Falls in a development which will provide increased capacity and the introduction of business class.

The airline which previously operated a 37-seater embraer ERJ135 on the route will now use an Avrorj regional jet with 87 seats.

The bigger aircraft is for the meantime being deployed when demand arises.

Tourism players in the resort town who are currently enjoying record numbers in terms of tourists' arrivals and room occupancy said the increased traffic and interests by international airlines is welcome.

"We are so excited as tourism players because whenever an airline increases its capacity it's a sign of confidence in the destination and it will also mean increased business for us," said some of the tourism players.

Currently SA Airlink flies six times per week flights on the Cape Town-Victoria Falls route.

Tourism operators in the resort town are already positioning themselves to benefit from the envisaged surge in tourists traffic with more rooms under construction.

Buoyed by the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business' campaign, the country is upbeat of registering at least 2.8 million tourists' arrivals by December 2018.
