NATIONAL airline, Air Zimbabwe, has announced that its Harare-Mutare-Victoria Falls flight route will now operate permanently, following an overwhelming response to its initial launch for the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the airline confirmed that the service will run daily, connecting Harare to Mutare's Grand Reef Aerodrome and onwards to Victoria Falls. One-way fares will start from US$85, with return tickets priced from US$170.

"The route was first introduced to facilitate travel for the 18th Edition of the tourism expo held at Mutare Sports Club but quickly proved its value beyond the event," the airline said.

Air Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer, Mr Edmund Makona, said the decision was driven by strong demand.

"This route has received an overwhelmingly positive response across the board. It has evolved from an event-specific service to a permanent arrangement, providing essential air access to the Eastern Highlands," he said.

The airline added that the move is not only a boost for domestic tourism but also a strategic effort to strengthen regional economic integration.

"We are proud to serve as a bridge; linking communities, enabling trade, and showcasing Zimbabwe's breathtaking destinations," the statement read.

Tourism operators have welcomed the development, which is expected to improve accessibility to the Eastern Highlands while further positioning Victoria Falls as the country's flagship destination. The permanent adoption of the route underscores Air Zimbabwe's commitment to enhancing connectivity between key tourist attractions and urban centres, making travel more convenient for both locals and international visitors.

Air Zimbabwe urged travellers and industry stakeholders to take advantage of the expanded service, which is anticipated to increase visitor numbers and stimulate growth within Zimbabwe's tourism sector.
