Econet faces scrutiny over EcoCloud promotion confusion

Econet faces scrutiny over EcoCloud promotion confusion
Published: 2 hours ago
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has come under scrutiny following widespread customer confusion over a promotional offer linked to its EcoCloud service.

Customers reportedly paid around US$0.30 believing they were purchasing a 25GB mobile data bundle. However, the service in question is actually EcoCloud, a cloud storage product similar to Google Drive, and not a mobile data package.

The misunderstanding was reportedly fuelled by the way the offer was presented, with EcoCloud appearing under the "data" category in some marketing and digital listings, leading users to assume it was internet data.

Many customers only later realised the offer related to storage space rather than connectivity, prompting complaints and wider debate on the clarity of the promotion.

The incident has raised concerns about how digital products are labelled and communicated, with calls for clearer messaging to prevent customers from being misled at the point of purchase.
