Zimbabwe's year-on-year inflation rate goes down

Zimbabwe's year-on-year inflation rate for April 2013 shed 0,27 percentage points on the March 2013 rate of 2,76 percent to 2,49 percent, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency has said.

This means that prices as measured by the all items consumer pricing index increased by an average of 2,49 percentage points between April 2012 and April 2013.

"The year-on-year inflation rate is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year," said ZimStat.

"The year-on-year Food and Non Alcoholic beverages inflation prone to transitory shocks stood at 3,58 percent while the inflation rate was 1,94 percent."

The month-on-month inflation rate in April 2013 was -0,07 percent shedding 0,28 percentage points on the March 2013 rate of 0,21 percent.

Monthly food and beverages inflation stood at -0,44 percent in April 2013 shedding 0,76 percentage points on the March 2013 rate of 0,32 percent.

The consumer pricing index for the month ending April 2013 stood at 101,2 percent compared to 98,5 percent of April last year.
