Mapeza braces for tough Dembare test

Mapeza braces for tough Dembare test

Norman Mapeza says his side is fully prepared for a far more difficult challenge when they face Dynamos FC in their Castle Lager Premiership clash at Rufaro Stadium, warning that the Harare giants have transformed significantly since their heavy defeat earlier in the season.

The Mabvuku-based side, Scottland FC, famously thrashed Dynamos 5–0 in the Castle Challenge Cup last month to lift the trophy, but Mapeza insists tomorrow's league encounter will bear no resemblance to that result.

"No, it's not going to be a similar game," Mapeza told journalists. "They've done their homework… they look very organised in every department."

Dynamos, who sit fourth on the log with 15 points, have been one of the surprise packages of the season, remaining unbeaten after seven matches and showing improved structure under pressure following last season's relegation scare.

Scottland are just one point behind on 13 points, also unbeaten, setting up a high-stakes clash between two early-season title contenders.

Mapeza, a four-time league champion, said he expects a tactically disciplined opponent and has been focusing heavily on mental preparation.

"Such big games, sometimes you just need the mind… it's all about psychology," he said.

The match comes just days after Scottland secured a morale-boosting 1–0 win over Highlanders FC in the Independence Cup final in Maphisa, a result Mapeza said has lifted confidence in the camp.

However, he admitted fixture congestion and travel could affect preparation, especially after a demanding schedule.

"I would have preferred maybe the game to be played on a Sunday… but these are the fixtures we have to deal with," he said.

The Scottland–Dynamos rivalry has grown rapidly since Scottland's entry into top-flight football, with both sides drawing large crowds in previous meetings, including a dramatic 3–2 league encounter last season.

However, tomorrow's fixture will be played mid-week, which Mapeza fears could affect attendance, although he still expects strong fan support given the stature of both clubs.

"Dynamos will always remain Dynamos… they've got a huge fan base," he said.

Scottland head into the match boosted by their recent cup success, but Mapeza warned that consistency in the league will depend on maintaining discipline and managing player fitness after a busy schedule.

The clash is widely expected to be one of the standout fixtures of Match Day 8, with both teams still unbeaten and separated by just two points on the league table.
