Published: 09 September 2013
Industry representative body, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) says it will hold its annual congress from the 9th to the 11st of October with the need to revive the local industry high on the agenda.

The congress which was initially slatted for June was postponed to pave way for the holding of the 2013 harmonised polls.

The industry representative body, which commended the nation for conducting the national exercise in a free and credible manner, says the meeting is now pencilled for the 9th of October.

CZI President Charles Msipa said the meeting which will be held in Bulawayo we see industrialists, policy makers and corporate leaders coming up with strategies to accelerate economic resurgence and the improvement of the competitiveness of the local industry.

Mr Msipa also expressed satisfaction that the new cabinet to be announced will direct resources towards the revitalisation of the local industry given the low capacity utilisation levels and obsolete equipment.

Indigenous Business Women Organisation (IBWO) president Mrs Jane Mutasa said the new cabinet should prioritise the reduction of the obtaining trade gap and the creation of a conducive business operating environment.

Industrialists are pinning their hopes on the incoming cabinet to address the macro-economic challenges facing the local economy including the low foreign direct investments, huge debt overhang, subdued capacity utilisation levels and revenue under-performance.
