ZNCC to chair the Business Council of Zim
Published: 09 December 2013
The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce will be chairing the Business Council of Zimbabwe for the term.

This resolution was made yesterday after the business member organisations agreed to that, Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe executive director Mr John Mufukare said.

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss whether the organisation was serving its purpose and there was still a need for its existence since nothing tangible had ever been achieved by the organization over the past two years.

The Business Council of Zimbabwe (BCZ) is a private sector business organization established for the purpose of economic and business policy advocacy. The BCZ is composed of nine business member organisations (BMOs).

These are the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (COMZ), Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ), Commercial Farmers Union (CFU), Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU), Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) and Zimbabwe Council of Tourism (ZCT).

In 2011, BCZ held its first ever annual Zimbabwe Indaba at Troutbeck Resort in Nyanga from 16-18th November 2011. The Indaba was facilitated by KM Financial Solutions.

The conferencewas held under the theme "$100 billion by 2040 - National Collaborative Imperatives".

The attendees included top Government officials, captains of Industry, Members of Parliament, workers representative, farmers’ representatives, civic society, and other interest groups.

The conference proposed imperatives that each member as mandated to tackle in line with the vision of attaining the $100 billion economy by 2040. The imperatives included, improving infrastructure, promoting value addition, improving productivity and product competitiveness among others.

Since that conference nothing has been done to follow up on the agreed imperatives to achieve the $100 billion economy by 2014. In this light, the coming in of ZNCC to chair the organization should see these set imperatives make out the light of day so as to grow the economy for the betterment of the nation as a whole.
