3 renowned Harare-based estate agents have been suspended by the Estate Agents' Council to pave way for investigations into their operations.

In a statement last week, the council said the suspension of Fox & Carney, Remax Realty and Hopewins Real Estate was with immediate effect, but did not give further details.

The council also deregistered businessmen Charles Tapiwa and Phillip Mbanje alongside Ubuntu Property Services for alleged misappropriation of trust funds.

Fox & Carney is the country's oldest real estate firm founded in the 1960s as a family-run business, while Remax Realty is an international firm with a branch in Zimbabwe situated in Borrowdale, Harare, and Hopewins Real Estate is locally based.
