The government is moving to introduce performance contracts for all parastatal board members, amid indications that failure to sign the contracts inside two months of appointment will be punishable by dismissal.

According to the Public Entities Corporate Governance Bill, President Robert Mugabe's administration wants to empower line ministers with powers to sack underperforming boards at the country's struggling State-owned enterprises, which remain in the red after recording cumulative losses and net liabilities are in excess of $1 billion in the period to December 2015.
