Zim women make breakthrough in boards
Published: 26 July 2017
The Institute of Directors Zimbabwe (IDZ) is recording progress on the initiative to promote a 50 percent women representation in company boards.

The programme started last year to redress the skewed statistics which reflected the gender disparities on listed companies.

The Institute of Directors Zimbabwe has extensively worked on the women on boards programme by engaging participants in Harare and Bulawayo, as it aligns its efforts to ensure more diversity and increased effectiveness on boards with a target to increase participation within the next five years.

The mantra of women's economic empowerment has dominated discussions at various economic platforms yet the country has not fully utilised the abundant potential in this human capital.

Available statistics show that out of the 64 companies listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), there were 482 directors and less than 50 women were on the boards.

It therefore becomes imperative for these companies to take the front row to address these disparities on boards to broaden leadership ideas.
