President Emmerson Mnangagwa held high-level meetings with two major Chinese corporations in Beijing on Monday, advancing Zimbabwe's agenda to modernise infrastructure and accelerate digital transformation.

The President first engaged with executives from China Railway International Group (CRIG), a subsidiary of China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC), to discuss plans for the long-awaited rehabilitation of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ).

He later met with senior officials from global telecommunications firm Huawei, where discussions centred on expanding investment in ICT talent, strengthening digital infrastructure, and introducing advanced technologies to support Zimbabwe's digital future.

Huawei Technologies Zimbabwe managing director Yang Shengwan reaffirmed the company's long-term commitment to the country.

"Huawei has been present in Zimbabwe for 26 years and remains dedicated to playing a central role in the nation's digitalisation agenda," Shengwan said.

Later in the day, President Mnangagwa is scheduled to visit the Zimbabwean Embassy in Beijing as part of his official engagements.
