Tragedy struck the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) on Tuesday when a trainer aircraft reportedly crashed shortly after take-off at Manyame Airbase, claiming the lives of two personnel.

According to unconfirmed reports, the plane lost power around 12:15 PM, moments after leaving the runway. The pilot reportedly died at the scene, while an officer cadet on board succumbed to injuries later in the day, passing away at approximately 4 PM in hospital.

The AFZ has yet to officially confirm the incident, but sources indicate that the aircraft experienced engine failure shortly after take-off and crashed within the airbase perimeter.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to be launched, with the AFZ likely to provide further details in due course.
