Mnangagwa's wife donates blankets to hospital beds

First Lady and Health and Child Care Ambassador, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, has made a landmark contribution to Zimbabwe's health sector by donating brand-new blankets for every bed in all Central and Provincial hospitals nationwide.

The donation, which complements government efforts, ensures that no patient will go without proper bedding, a crucial component of quality health care. Dr Mnangagwa's initiative reflects her ongoing commitment to accessible and dignified health services across the country.

Acting Health Secretary Dr Stephen Banda praised the donation, highlighting the impact on patient care. "Each hospital will receive blankets based on its bed capacity times two, meaning each bed will have two blankets. For the First Lady, this is a wonderful gesture that will benefit citizens and support the Ministry of Health," he said.

Dr Banda noted that the First Lady's support through Angel of Hope extends beyond bedding, including cervical cancer screening programmes, mobile women's health buses, and rehabilitation initiatives for youth struggling with drug abuse.

Hospital representatives expressed immense gratitude for the contribution. At Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, Matron Sandra Chipere welcomed the 2,500 blankets for the hospital's 1,250 beds, emphasizing the relief this provides amid growing patient numbers.

Clinical Matron Tendai Matsvimbo of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals applauded the initiative, noting that the donation ensures clean and adequate bedding for all patients and complements prior contributions of medical equipment and food hampers. Sister Loice Joromani of Chitungwiza Central Hospital echoed the sentiment, highlighting the ongoing support from Dr Mnangagwa in providing consumables, medicines, and other essential items.

Through this donation, Dr Mnangagwa demonstrates her unwavering dedication to strengthening public health institutions and improving service delivery, ensuring patients receive care with comfort and dignity across Zimbabwe.
