Two people are reported dead following a violent hijacking of a Delta bus travelling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe on Thursday morning, 9 October 2025. The attack, which left passengers traumatised and stripped of their valuables, occurred shortly after the bus departed Johannesburg.

Eyewitnesses described the harrowing ordeal, saying armed robbers ambushed the vehicle after the third toll gate along its route. Passengers were robbed of cash and mobile phones, and two people were allegedly shot dead during the attack. The witnesses claimed that the assailants had been on the bus since it left Johannesburg.

In a Facebook post, one passenger wrote in a mix of English and isiNdebele: "Sekudutshulwe abantu 2 sebeshonile," which translates to "Two people have been shot and are deceased." The post urged families to urgently check on loved ones, as most passengers were left without their phones following the robbery.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and police have launched investigations into the incident. Authorities have not officially confirmed the fatalities but appealed to the public to provide any information that could help identify and apprehend the suspects involved.

Cross-border travel to Zimbabwe has repeatedly been targeted by criminals, with bus hijackings along routes from South Africa, Mozambique, and Botswana posing a recurring threat. This latest attack, however, stands out for its deadly outcome, highlighting the persistent dangers faced by travellers on these routes.
