Zanu-PF officials loot day-old chicks

Zanu-PF Women's League boss, Mable Chinomona, was left fuming last week after over 5 000 day-old chicks, meant for distribution to women in Manicaland, allegedly disappeared ahead of a party empowerment event.

The donation was scheduled during a Zanu-PF Manicaland women's empowerment meeting at Chiwetu Training Centre in Makoni West Constituency last Wednesday. High-profile attendees included Information Minister Jenfan Muswere, Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Misheck Mugadza, and Zanu-PF Manicaland Chairperson Tawanda Mukodza.

Chinomona, expecting 10 000 chicks, confronted party officials during the event, demanding accountability. "I am a Senate President, Women's League boss, and Politburo member; I cannot preside over 4 000 chicks. This is wrong; we need accountability in this party," she said.

Zanu-PF Makoni West Ward 13 Councillor Mind Nyamande confirmed the discrepancy, saying he had counted 4 100 chicks and was unaware of what happened to the rest. Questions were later referred to Manicaland Women's League boss Dorothy Mabika, who claimed the chicks had simply arrived late and were not stolen.

The donation of day-old chicks is part of several empowerment programmes run by Zanu-PF, some of which have been marred by reports of corruption and looting, raising concerns among beneficiaries.
