General functions
Under the direct supervision of the Programmes Manager in Harare, and in coordination with relevant units at Headquarters, Regional offices and program partners the successful candidate will work with the Programmes Unit for the implementation of the Information and Visibility Strategy. The selected candidate will be expected to work on full-time basis during the assigned period.

Amongst other expertise in communications and visibility he/she is expected to:
Contribute to development and implementation of the organization’s integrated communications strategy, including its evaluation and regular updating; Coordinate efforts, measuring results and impact of communications activities and reporting on developments, trends and attitudes regarding various developmental issues; Coordinate the implementation of the Film Audio Visual and multi Media Strategy; Draft press releases and contribute to reports, statements and talking points for Board and Management; Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion and press, identify issues and trends, and advise management on appropriate action/responses; Assist in media relations activities, including coordinating press conferences and press seminars, background briefings, facilitating interviews with board and Management and other special promotional activities of priority issues and/or major events; Develop and maintain database of media, and other appropriate partners and establish professional relationships with these partners and other key constituencies; Ensure that the organization and program ‘messages and activities are covered in all its social media platforms, and website; Produce or oversees public information outputs to ensure that they meet high-quality standards, in accordance with different partners policy objectives and rules and regulations, and are evaluated for their effectiveness

Competencies
Professionalism: Strong communication and analytical skills and ability to rapidly process and integrate diverse information from various sources; proven ability in news gathering, writing and editing to very tight deadlines; thorough knowledge of development issues and keen awareness of political sensitivities of inter-governmental processes, understanding of, and experience in, dealing with the media.

Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Planning and Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience either in communications, information, journalism or related area, including experience in designing and desktop publishing. Previous experience of working with and through partners; Familiarity with international NGOs, EU and other development partners; Thorough knowledge of English; Knowledge of both Shona and Ndebele is an added advantage.
