Chartered Secretaries discuss how corporate governance adds value

Chartered secretaries will discuss how stakeholder value can be enhanced through good corporate governance, when they meet in Victoria Falls on Friday (September 27) for their three-day annual conference.

South African corporate governance consultant Clive Kneale, of Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa, is due to give the keynote address on the first day of the conference, after the conference has been officially opened by Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Zimbabwe president Glovah Madzima.

After  Mr Kneale has made his keynote presentation, Mr Canaan Dube, a senior partner at DMH Legal Practitioners, will address delegates on the framework of the Corporate Governance Code that is being drawn up for Zimbabwe.

This will be followed by a presentation on governance in public listed companies by Securities Exchange commission chief executive Tafadzwa Chinamo.

The next day's proceedings begin with a presentation by Dr Reynolds Muza, a Camelsa audit partner, on how corporate governance can be enhanced through the application of international financial reporting standards (IFRSs).

Zimplats chief executive Alex Mhembere will speak on mining as the cornerstone of economic growth.

Other speakers include Afrexim Bank executive vice-president Denys Denya, who will speak on ‘Growing the Zimbabwean Cake - A Banker's Perspective'.

‘Chartered Secretary - Rise and Shine' is the intriguing title of a presentation by Mrs Miriam Rungwende, National Pharmaceutical Company business development manager.

There will be a panel discussion towards the end of the morning on the second day of the conference.

Conference delegates will have an opportunity to interact with one another in an informal atmosphere in the afternoon, which will be devoted to sports and leisure.

There will be a formal banquet on Saturday evening at which the Chartered Secretary of the Year for 2012 will be honoured.
