Newly co-opted Zanu-PF Central Committee member Kudakwashe Tagwirei yesterday announced an ambitious transformation initiative for Gazaland in Highfield and the Glen View Area 8 Complex, unveiling plans to construct modern, world-class commercial hubs designed to revitalise local industry and small businesses.
Speaking during a Zone 2 inter-district meeting held at Gwanzura Stadium - convened to provide feedback on resolutions from the 22nd Zanu-PF National People's Conference - Tagwirei said the developments would create integrated industrial centres offering a variety of goods and services under one roof.
The Glen View complex is expected to host state-of-the-art carpentry facilities arranged in a market-style format to promote competitive pricing and efficiency. In Gazaland, the focus will be on expanding the area into a vibrant marketplace specialising in motor vehicle spare parts.
Tagwirei also pledged to construct five clinics equipped with maternity wards across Glen View, Glen Norah, Highfield and Budiriro as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare in Zone 2, which also includes part of Mufakose's Ward 34.
In addition, he launched a US$200,000 revolving fund targeted at supporting the party's Main Wing, Women's League, War Veterans League and Youth League within the zone.
"I will inject funding towards the construction of world-class complexes in Glen View Area 8 and Gazaland to support the SMEs," said Tagwirei. "This initiative aims to facilitate formal registration for small businesses."
He added that Government would assist with road construction and ensure access to clean water for the new complexes.
Tagwirei further announced plans to drill 80 solar-powered boreholes across the zone, guaranteeing reliable access to clean water for residents. He also promised to distribute 12,500 Christmas hamper packs to households in the area.
In honour of liberation war heroes, Tagwirei donated US$75,000 for the construction of a modern house for Cde Daniel Furusa, a surviving member of the General Staff who fought in the liberation struggle. He also contributed US$10,000 towards the purchase of sunscreen for people with albinism.
Businessman Wicknell Chivayo complemented these pledges by donating 14 computers for use across Zones 1 and 2, bolstering digital and educational resources in the community.
Zanu-PF Harare Provincial Chairman Godwills Masimirembwa said the inter-district meeting, which drew over 12,000 party members, was part of efforts to strengthen the party's presence in the capital.
"This is part of our strategy to ensure Zanu-PF reclaims its status in Harare. We have won all the by-elections," he said.
The high-profile event was attended by Politburo members, Central Committee members, National Consultative Assembly representatives and senior provincial officials, underscoring the party's renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation and development.
