Newly co-opted Zanu-PF Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei has announced plans to construct a multi-million-dollar complex at PaDust market in Hatcliffe as part of his drive to boost the growth of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
Speaking at an inter-district meeting to provide feedback on the outcome of the 22nd Zanu-PF Annual National People's Conference, Dr Tagwirei said his initiatives were aimed at empowering all residents under the mantra of "leaving no one and no place behind." He emphasised that Vision 2030 is a reality and that the conference had resolved to extend President Mnangagwa's term to 2030 to benefit from the progress achieved under his policies and vision.
Dr Tagwirei outlined a wide-ranging programme of community upliftment. He announced the launch of a US$200 000 revolving fund to support all party wings in Hatcliffe Zone 4, with each wing set to receive US$50 000. He also committed to drilling 80 solar-powered boreholes across Chitungwiza to ensure households have access to clean water and pledged the construction of five clinics with maternity wards in the zone. In addition, he handed over US$25 000 to empower people with disabilities and distributed 20 wheelchairs to those in need. His family also committed to delivering 12 500 Christmas hampers to vulnerable families in the area.
In a further demonstration of his commitment to supporting local development, Dr Tagwirei revealed that he would construct party offices in Zone 4. He also made personal contributions of US$100 000 each to Banket District Hospital, where he was born, and Kuwadzana Primary School, which he attended, promising that these funds would be used to improve services at both institutions.
Dr Tagwirei highlighted the government's broader plans to accelerate the MSME sector in 2026, focusing on skills development, financing, infrastructure, and formalisation, all aimed at promoting inclusive economic growth, poverty alleviation, and broad-based empowerment. He noted that MSMEs are crucial to Zimbabwe's economy, contributing over 60 percent of the country's GDP and providing livelihoods for more than 70 percent of the working population, particularly youths and women.
Provincial chairman Mary Mliswa-Chikoka commended Dr Tagwirei for his philanthropic work, while Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi praised the provincial leadership for engaging key stakeholders to unpack policies and community initiatives. Ziyambi described Dr Tagwirei's interventions as a reflection of a strong commitment to social upliftment, community empowerment, and inclusive development.
