Zimbabwe to proceed with platinum levy

Zimbabwe to proceed with platinum levy
Published: 20 October 2017
Zimbabwe will proceed with plans to levy 15 percent on raw platinum exports starting next year, if producers fail to comply with Government policy and directive for miners to build beneficiation facilities.

Mines and Mining Minister Walter Chidhakwa said Government had no plans to change its position on unprocessed exports but miners making progress to comply would be exempted from the levy.

Current government policy stipulates that all unbeneficiated platinum attracts an export tax of 15%. Following negotiations between government and the chamber and subsequent agreement on beneficiation plans for platinum producers, the export was deferred to January 1, 2018.
