According to official data released by the African Development Bank (AfDB), tourist arrivals from Africa rose by 14 percent to more than 200 000 compared to an average of 80 000 visitors from the overseas market.

An economic analyst, Mr Craig Nhandara said the  rise in tourist  arrivals is mainly due to stability within the global economy as well as the  general growth in world travel  trends.

"This is encouraging and we anticipate  a lot more in the second quarter," he said.

The Zimbabwe Council for Tourism past president, Mr Emmanuel Fundira said the rise in the tourist arrivals is an indication that Zimbabwe is a safe and viable destination.

"This is generally a reflection that we have what it takes to be a great player in the sector," said Mr Fundira.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has however attributed the growth in foreign tourist arrivals to the strategic marketing campaigns in source markets.
