Zimra, CVR synchronise vehicle data bases

Zimra, CVR synchronise vehicle data bases
Published: 26 July 2017
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) says the synchronisation of vehicle registration between ZIMRA and the Central Vehicle Registry  (CVR) is expected to curb rampant smuggling of vehicles.

This comes in the wake of ZIMRA's new programme to synchronise the data base of vehicles under the CVR.

ZIMRA Board Chair, Mrs Willia Bonyongwe said the new programme is expected to reduce rampant smuggling of vehicles that resulted in fraudulent registration of vehicles, thereby prejudicing ZIMRA of large sums of money.

She called on other arms of government to play their part in curbing corruption, adding that whistle blowers have also played a significant role in reporting illicit dealings at the country's borders.

It has been established that some unscrupulous Zimbabweans are registering vehicles with less value and use the number plates on state of the art vehicles they would have fraudulently imported with the help of some corrupt ZIUMRA and CVR officials.
