Redcliff Municipality is pursuing an ambitious vision of attaining city status by 2030, with plans underway to relocate its Central Business District (CBD) closer to the highway to stimulate economic growth and attract investment in tourism.

Speaking at the ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo in Mutare on Thursday, municipal spokesperson Michael Magoronga said the move is part of the local authority's long-term development strategy.

"Our vision is to become a city by 2030. We plan to relocate the central business district closer to the highway where there is economic activity," Magoronga said.

The proposed relocation is anchored in Redcliff's draft master plan, which outlines land utilisation and infrastructure priorities to prepare the town for city status. Magoronga noted that of the 6,400 hectares within the municipality's jurisdiction, only 50 percent is currently utilised.

As part of its diversification strategy, the municipality has earmarked about 2,000 hectares specifically for tourism-related development, aiming to leverage the town's proximity to major transport corridors to attract commerce, hospitality, and local enterprise.

Redcliff's participation at the premier tourism expo underscores the municipality's commitment to reposition itself as a modern urban centre capable of competing at both national and regional levels.
