The Lusaka Magistrates' Court has jailed two men for two years each after finding them guilty of attempting to use witchcraft to bewitch President Hakainde Hichilema.

Jasten Mabulesse Candunde (42) of Mozambique and Leonard Phiri (43) of Sinda District were convicted of possessing charms and professing knowledge of witchcraft, offences under Zambia's Witchcraft Act, Chapter 90.

Magistrate Fines Mayambu ruled that the State had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, warranting their conviction.

In mitigation, the pair pleaded for leniency, arguing that even President Hichilema has publicly said witchcraft does not exist.
