Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has issued notice of its intention to convert a golf course in Hatfield into a low-density residential development, paving the way for 17 housing stands.
The proposal, published under Section 49(4) of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 29:12), relates to the Remaining Extent of Lot 227 in Hatfield Township, currently zoned as a golf course under the Waterfalls/Hatfield Local Development Plan No. 26.
According to the notice, the land is set to be rezoned from public open space into residential use, with each of the proposed stands measuring approximately 2 000 square metres.
"The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is obliged to give public notice of its intention to consent to the change of reservation and transfer of the affected property free from any restrictions limiting the use of the land to Public Open Space," the notice reads.
The application documents have been made available for public inspection at the office of the Chief Director of Spatial Planning and Development at the Makombe Building in Harare.
Members of the public and interested stakeholders have been invited to submit objections or representations within 30 days of the first publication of the notice, as required by law.
If approved, the development will mark a shift in land use from recreational infrastructure to residential housing, reflecting growing demand for urban housing in the capital, Harare.
