Can companies do business without corruption?

Published: 10 June 2013
The chief executive of the Ethics Institute of South Africa, Professor  Geoff Rossouw, will be addressing members of the Institute of Directors tomorrow (Thursday) on the question of whether companies can be successful without engaging in corruption.

"Can companies conduct business without corruption?" is  the topic chosen by the Institute of Directors of Zimbabwe  (IoDZ) for its breakfast meeting, which it has organised in collaboration with Telecel Zimbabwe.

The Institute recently signed an agreement with Telecel in terms of which its quarterly breakfast briefings will be held in collaboration with Telecel, which is providing funding for the meetings.

In terms of the agreement, Telecel will also be a major sponsor of the Institute's Director of the Year awards, which are due to be held later this month.

Prof. Rossouw, who is an extraordinary professor at Stellenbosch University is an acknowledged expert on ethical issues.

One of the objectives of the IoDZ  is to promote excellence, enterprise and integrity in directors, as well as help improve their skills, through events such as its quarterly breakfast briefings.

This year is the first year in which the briefings are being held in collaboration with Telecel.

Telecel public relations and corporate social responsibility manager Francis Chimanda said Telecel was happy to be associated with the Institute of Directors, given the important role the IoDZ plays within the business sector, particularly in its fostering of business excellence and good corporate governance.

"This is the first time that we are sponsoring the IoDZ breakfast sessions and already we feel it is a worthwhile move," he said

"Integrity is a key value that is much needed. We believe this session is of particular importance and, together with the upcoming ones, will benefit not only those who attend but the country's business sector as a whole, given the important role that directors play within any business."

The breakfast sessions are open to all directors, members and non-members, for a fee.
