UNWTO brand ambassadors unveiled

The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Walter Mzembi says the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly to be held in Victoria Falls in August presents to Zimbabwe an opportunity to correct misconceptions around the country's socio-political landscape.

Unveiling 44 UNWTO General Assembly brand ambassadors, who have been selected to promote and create awareness of the event, Mzembi said the tourism event provides the country with an opportunity to vindicate itself from unjustified attacks from the international world.

He said despite presenting a unique branding opportunity, the event will enable the international community to have first hand information about Zimbabwe rather than relying on hearsay.

"It is an opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase Victoria Falls to the world, the wonderful and unique story that the sub-region has unparalleled peace, warm welcoming people, fascinating cultural heritage and unsurpassed wildlife in pristine environments," said Mzembi.

Turning to the 44 brand ambassadors, who were drawn from all disciplines ranging from sports, business to the media, Mzembi said they are individuals that are already well-known as a result of their achievements and contribution to the nation and should use their ability to reach all audiences and networks to promote Zimbabwe.

Some of the tourism brand ambassadors include Shingi Munyeza, Shingi Mutasa, Philip Mataranyika, Tendai Madzivanyika, Rugare Dhobbie, Hugo Ribatika, Glen Stachberry and Supa Mandiwanzira, among others.
