Econet hands over $100 000 command centre to UNWTO

Econet Wireless has handed over a $100 000 command centre to the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality ahead of the UNWTO General Assembly to be held next month.

Econet is due to commission another command centre in Victoria Falls and is already laying cables to enable best facilities to the UNWTO delegates.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of, Marketing executive Isaiah Nyangari said: "We are not only ending in Harare, but we are going to be replicating the same in Victoria Falls and work already has started and hope to be handing it over before heroes."

"We are going to put in more, and going to be the first to offer LTE, though I can't give you more details about that, but it's going to be offered in Victoria Falls."

Econet has also increased the capacity of its base stations as well as boosted reception at all airports, to enable fast internet browsing and has promised to continue working with the ministry so as to ensure the success of the assembly.

Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Walter Mzembi said the general assembly ought to be a paperless general assembly, with the revolution in Information Technology (IT) as well as travel.

Mzembi said the command centres come as a requirement of the UNWTO, with one centre to be set where the minister is domiciled and another in Victoria Falls.
