Zimbabwe will host its first Finance, Banking and Insurance Exhibition (ZFBIEX), from July 24 to 25.

The expo, which will be held under the patronage of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr Gideon Gono, is expected to create financial intermediation between the banking and insurance sectors.

The event will bring together a broad range of exhibitors from the financial services industry, including banks, financial institutions, asset managers, consultants and corporate finance specialists.

Other participants will be drawn from Government agencies, credit card companies, export credit and rating agencies, regulators, stockbrokers and insurance and re-insurance companies.

The expo is running under the theme "Financial inclusively as a sectoral and demographic discourse".

Addressing the media, chief co-ordinator of the expo Mr Joseph Sagwati said there was a missing link in the engagement of banking and insurance sectors, which had necessitated the holding of the expo.

He added that Zimbabwe was one of the few countries that had been lagging behind in terms of hosting such business platforms.

"ZfBIEX 2013 will offer exhibitors a powerful platform to network with industry professionals, improve customer relations, demonstrate latest services and mutually exchange best practices," he said

Mr Sagwati added that financial intermediation between banks and the insurance sector was the main drive behind coming up with the hosting of the expo in Zimbabwe.

"The expo will empower organisations to identify market requirements and target buyers in new growth markets. We want to make it a permanent feature on our annual business calendar," he said.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi is expected to lead discussions on the preparedness of banks towards the hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly next month.

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe is going to be looking at mobile banking.

It is expected to provide detailed information on security matters surrounding SMS money transfer.

ZfBIEX 2013 is being organised by Cernic Finance Group, a structured finance company with extensive links with local and international finance intermediaries.

The exhibition is also being supported by the RBZ, Securities Commission of Zimbabwe and Bankers' Association of Zimbabwe.

Some of the companies that are going to participate in this expo include KPMG, BancABC, Legal Aid Insurance and Champions Insurance Company.
