Leading luxury vehicle distributor, Zimoco has unveiled the new Mercedes Benz A-Class and E-Class premium vehicles in Zimbabwe.

At a function to launch the two compact vehicles in Harare, Zimoco general manager Mr Nicholas Lumsden said while the new A-Class opened a new chapter in the Mercedes Benz compact segment, the E-Class showed that it has stood at the heart of the luxury passenger car range.

The Mercedes Benz A-Class is not entirely new in this part of the world as South Africa has already sold more than 3 000 units since it was launched at the beginning of the year.

There was a lot of interest in the A-Class as it brings in a progressive design, a sporty hatchback model with a low centre of gravity but generous luggage space.

"The A-Class is already fully equipped even in its base configuration, but there are lots of options to meet individual tastes."

The two vehicles come in a wide range of petrol and diesel engines promising higher levels of efficiency. Mr Lumsden said the petrol engines come with turbo charging offering unparalleled performance at Zimbabwean altitudes.

The highest standards of safety are offered for vehicles in this class and a radar based collision warning system with adaptive brake assist is fitted as standard on the A-Class.

Mr Lumsden said there was not much to talk about the E-Class as it offered limitless opportunities with the E300 that was on show drawing a lot of interest as well.

The robust vehicle was certainly a spectacle to watch and stood out as a symbol of leadership in its class.

The price tag on the A-Class is around US$55 000 (duty free) and US$75 000 including duty. For the Mercedes E300 the price is US$81 399 (duty free) and with the duty included the price rises to $111 413.

Historically, the Mercedes Benz range has been regarded as the foremost executive vehicle in this country although lately other brands such as Chevrolet, Ford, Land Cruiser, Ranger Rover and Jaguar have made inroads into the market.

In Zimbabwe, Zimoco are the official distributors for Merceds Benz, Chrysler, Jeep and GWM.
