NRZ relocating

An estate agent has started looking for tenants to occupy Africa House in the city centre with the imminent relocation of the National Railways of Zimbabwe from the premises.

For years, the NRZ has been leasing the building which is owned by the NRZ Contributory Pension Fund to house some of its workers.

NRZ announced last month that it was moving out of rented premises as part of space rationalising and cost-cutting. The relocation was being done on a pilot basis in Bulawayo before being extended to other centres.

Last week property managers Knight Frank announced that it was looking for tenants to take occupancy of the building which in a prime location.

It said the nine-storey building had a total lettable space of 55 705 square metres on three wings.

When the NRZ made the announcement that it would vacate the building, it said it would save up to $50 000 a month in rentals as it would make use of its own under-utilised properties.

The NRZ Contributory Pension Fund has a vast property portfolio, which include Parkade Centre, which houses a number of businesses, including the parastatal's head office.

No comment could be immediately obtained from the NRZ on where workers and officials housed at Africa House would be relocated to.
