Govt to scrap electricity bills, says Mujuru
Published: 08 August 2013
Vice President Joice Mujuru says the government intends to scrap electricity bills that were accumulated since the hyper-inflationary era to lessen the burden on people.

Mujuru who was addressing people at an event to remember the life of Simon Chimbetu conceded that the bills that were carried forward since the change over to the multi-currency regime have become a burden for the people and there is need to scrap them.

The Vice President who thanked the electorate for voting for Zanu-PF overwhelmingly and showing confidence in President Robert Mugabe also dismissed speculations that the government is considering immediately re-introducing the Zimbabwe dollar.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has said there are no immediate plans to re-introduce the Zimbabwean dollar saying it can only be introduced when the economy has stabilised.

Analysts say the speculation was generated by sections that wanted to create a state of panic after Zanu-PF won the elections.
